- Dr Who Monster Invasion Tin
Doctor Who fans dream My son loved this. I was slightly disappointed that there werent many cards in the tin but apparantly one of them is a rare one with a rare autograph on it so he was happy.
Nice tin, exclusive card and good way of getting packets This set retails at £9.99. Five individual packets would cost £7.50. So it is £2.49 for a tin-specific Ultra Rare card and the tin itself. It therefore is reasonably good value especially if you do not already have the specific card or tin.The Ultra Rare card is one of a numbered set of three, where one came with a magazine, one came with the subscriber-only tin and one with this magazine. The subscriber-only tin is identical except that it was not sealed, nor had a sticker on it, and the Amy foil-signature card is instead of the Rory foil signature card. The “autograph” cards are nice, but they are not traditional autograph cards, merely a foil facsimile of the character’s signature and not even the actor. The one with this tin is “signed” Rory Williams. If you are going to complete a set, this is the only direct means of getting the Rory card. The tin should hold up to 400 cards. It is a nice design and the Silence images and the lid text are slightly raised to the touch. The cards are part of Doctor Who Monster Invasion series 2, subtitle “EXTREME” although for some reason the word does not appear on the tin. It is different from the series 1 tin which features three daleks. The cards in general are nice with the Rare cards probably being the best because of the amount of silver-foil along with the Ultra Rares which have holographic-silver foil. The super rares are similar to the commons and have no foil. The three magazine/tin specific Ultra Rares have gold rather than silver foil. There is a risk, with these five packets, of doubles and even triples as I found with mine. For that reason it gets four rather than five stars.
