The Blue and the Gray (The Complete Miniseries) (1982)

Oh dear I really really wanted to enjoy this series – it promised so much. But I was hugely disappointed. Panoramic battle scenes with a cast of tens. Brothers and cousins on opposite sides who turn up time and again in the same battles. An artist who can turn out sketched masterpieces in under 2 minutes. Two main characters who always happen to be in the right place at the right time to be involved in every major incident of the war from Bull Run to Appomattox and Lincoln’s assassination. It gets 2 stars for not having the big fake stick-on beards like they had in Gettysburg.Approach with caution……
the blue and the gray I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS MINI-SERIES ON TV IN THE EARLY EIGHTIES – IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN. I CANT WAIT FOR THE DVD TO BE RELEASED. I HAVE HAD THE BOOK FOR TWENTY YEARS NOW AND THE SERIES WAS VERY LOYAL TO IT. THIS WAS ONE PROGRAMME THAT STARTED MY INTEREST IN THE HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR.

You may remember seeing it on TV in 1983. A good soap-opera mini series with family conflict, love, war etc. All done without anything to offend.
