Madame Vastra, the fabled Lizard Woman of Paternoster Row, knew death in many shapes and forms. But perhaps one of the most bizarre of these was death by snow…
On a cold day in December, two young boys, tired of sweeping snow from the workhouse yard, decide to build a snowman – and are confronted with a strange and grisly mystery. In horrified fascination, they watch as their snowman begins to bleed…
The search for answers to this impossible event will plunge Harry into the most hazardous – and exhilarating – adventure of his life. He will encounter a hideous troll. He will dine with a mysterious parlour maid. And he will help the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, save the world from the terrifying Devil in the Smoke.
OH DOCTOR! LOVE IT I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN FROM START TO FINISH WELL DONE TO THE AUTHOR GOOD MAN!
Fun entertaining prequel to Christmas TV story I read this before the TV Christmas episode aired, but it can be read equally well after watching that. On the downside it was a very quick read, and if it had been a physical book it would be a very short Quick Reads form (and possibly shorter) one. But on the plus side the characterisation of Vastra, Jenny and Strax was really good. And it was scary. Atmospheric and scary. With snow. And evil things. And Victorian London. What’s not to like about that combination? Also I enjoyed it vastly more than the Angel’s Kiss ebook.
Great short story that is a superb prelude to the Snowmen, loads of great comedic action for Strax a new hero in Dr Who history, read and enjoy
