Utterly Brilliant This book surpassed my expectations. Not just an essential read for any fan of Simply Red but also of appeal to anyone interested in the true story of a man’s extraordinary journey to become one of the biggest artists in the world. It is beautifully designed with a wealth of photographs (many from Hucknall’s personal collection) and is very well researched and solidly written. I suspected that as an ‘authorised’ book, it would be factually accurate but might tend towards a slightly sanitised version of events. Most certainly it does not. It is obvious that Brian Southall knows his stuff and has spoken at length to Hucknall and to everyone key to the band’s rise since their beginnings in 80’s Manchester. The result is a candid and fascinating story. By far the definitive biography on the band. Totally recommended.
I have only been a SR fan since Q2 1985, so feel less qualified to comment than my friend below (maybe above not sure), but I can spell so feel I have something to contribute here.I have known Mick for nearly a year now, and have been very impressed by his telephone manner, although it could be argued that Sinbad is better. I only wish that Mick could stop spending all his money on booze and other things and buy a suit. He looks like swampy these days.If you buy this book, I will get it signed for you if you like.
I have been a Simply Red fan since 1984 and have books, cds and dvds and cant rate any of their work highly enough. So sorry they disbanded. But I have great memorys of great concerts etc.
