An admission Unlike the first reviewer who bought this for her son, I’m 52 and have bought this for myself! I daresay it too will have to go away until Christmas so I just hope I can sleep before then. As hinted at in my earlier review for an 18″ Dalek, I am still a boy in my heart and my mind – although how much of that is due to impending Alzheimers, I don’t know, but this calendar is absolutely……well, a calendar. There isn’t much I can say about how it works. If you don’t know that, you are probably worse than I am in he memory dept. Suffice to say that it’s Doctor Who and as a lifelong fan of the Doctor, it’s worth he money. Kids will love it, grownups will adore it and Whovians will worship it. The only problem with it is that it’s a little depressing when you realise how quickly the years are passing (this is my sixth calendar since the show returned) but if you’re old enough, the passing of time will soon disappear from your memory – along with everyhing else.
Twelve months of the eleventh The official Doctor Who wall calendar for 2011 features the eleventh doctor and Amy and basically acts as a reminder of the fifth series. It follows the usual format for these things in folding out to have a big picture per month at the top and the dates for each month down the bottom. The date boxes are not very large so you won’t be writing too many notes in them but there’s an extra notes box for each month should you need that extra space. Each month focuses on one episode of the fifth season, the pictures at the top being publicity shots of the characters plus the Doctor and more often than not Amy from each of them, with a still plus a quote and a very brief plot summary for the episode down along with the dates.Since there were thirteen episodes it fits them all in by having an extra spread at the beginning with photos and the like for the series opener, plus the dates of all the months down the bottom. It you want eye catching Doctor who pictures on your wall all year that will remind you of the Eleventh Doctor’s debut series, this will more than suffice.
A review of the calendar avoiding pointless irrelevant diatribe I get a Doctor Who TV tie-in calendar every year and this is as good as any of its predecessors. I love the new series’ logo and screen shots from series 5, and without being sexist, pictures of the gorgeously statuesque Amy Pond are always welcome. I agree that there seems to be less space to write in appointments etc, but it will suffice, and more importantly it looks great on my kitchen wall.
